  • Cooking Method: Grilling
  • Prep Time: 30 minutes
  • Cook Time: 45 minutes
  • Cuisine Type: British

Ingredients

  • 8 British pork sausages
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Cooking Instructions

  • 1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Place the sausages directly on the grill grate and cook for about 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until cooked through and nicely charred.
  • 2. While sausages are cooking, boil potatoes in salted water for about 15 minutes or until tender. Drain and mash with butter and milk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  • 3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook until they turn golden brown, about 10 minutes. Sprinkle flour over onions, stirring constantly for 2 minutes.
  • 4. Gradually add beef broth to the skillet, stirring constantly, until the gravy thickens. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, then season with salt and pepper.
  • 5. Serve sausages over mashed potatoes, ladle onion gravy on top, and garnish with fresh parsley.

Suggestions

  • Swap British pork sausages for Cumberland or Lincolnshire sausages for a different flavor profile.
  • Garnish with a sprinkle of chives instead of parsley for a colorful kick.
  • Add a pinch of smoked paprika to the mash for a smoky twist.
  • Don’t have beef broth? Chicken broth works just fine. We won’t tell.
  • Pair with a side of grilled peas for extra Brit points. Pip pip! Cheerio!
