One of my favorite barbeque recipes has always been my Mom's bbq sauce. I know bbq sauces are
highly regional and individualistic, but someone else must like my Mom's sauce too since I won 2nd place in a sauce contest with this barbeque recipe (see pic below). I love bbq competitions because
not only do they have the main category competitions (ribs, chicken, pork, and brisket), but there are usually several other competitions like pies or sauces. My Mom's recipe is a vinegar, ketchup, and
worcestershire based recipe with a touch of onion and chili powder...
Annamae's barbeque sauce recipe One small to medium onion chopped fine
Combine everything in a large saucepan, mixing well. Bring to a boil and simmer, uncovered, several hours or until thick. Stir often making sure to scrape the sides. I remember when I was a little boy, I would put my favorite of all
barbeque recipes on everything... steak, pork, chicken, spam, and especially on the Thanksgiving turkey. Thank God I had the bbq sauce when my Mom served liver
and onions... I had to pour a whole bottle of sauce on it just to get it down! Seriously though... it's a great sauce, especially if you love onions. If you are a lover of slow smoked food, then this recipe goes
great with all smoke flavors especially mesquite. It will not overpower your smoke flavor and it "glazes" nicely. I know this may not be one of your favorite barbeque recipes since most people like a sweet honey based sauce. Others like a mustard based sauce, or vinegar and cayenne pepper based, or
no sauce at all - just a rub. If you think you would like a sweet bourbon bbq sauce, then you'll find a good recipe at :
4 tbsp vinegar
2 tsp paprika
2 tsp chili powder
1 ½ cups ketchup
1 ½ cups water
2 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
½ cup worcestershire sauce
